Privacy

I operate the website www.pretty-good-websites.com and collect certain data from my visitors as necessary. In the following privacy policy you will learn what I do with your data, so-called personal data, and why I do it. I will also tell you how I protect your data, when the data will be deleted and what rights you have thanks to data protection. First of all: I comply with data protection laws and protect your privacy as much as I can.

However, I would like to be quite open: The Internet thrives on data exchange and still has many security gaps. Even if your data is encrypted when you visit our website, there is always a residual risk at the latest when exchanging data with external websites. If you visit other websites - for example, via a link on our website - please note that this privacy policy does not apply to this third-party website. I would also like to point out that e-mails are an unencrypted and therefore fundamentally insecure communication medium.

What are my rights?
You can contact us at any time if you have questions about your data protection rights or would like to assert one of your following rights:

  • Objection according to Art. 21 DSGVO (e.g., you can contact us if you do not agree with any of the advertising or analysis procedures specified here).
  • Right of withdrawal according to Art. 7 (3) DSGVO (e.g. you can contact us if you wish to revoke a previously given consent to a newsletter)
  • Right to information according to Art. 15 DSGVO (e.g. you can contact us if you would like to know which data we have stored about you)
  • Correction according to Art. 16 DSGVO (e.g. you can contact us if your e-mail address has changed and you want us to replace the old e-mail address)
  • Deletion according to Art. 17 DSGVO (e.g. you can contact us if you want us to delete certain data that we have stored about you)
  • Restriction of processing according to Art. 18 DSGVO (e.g. you can contact us if you do not want us to delete your e-mail address, but only to use it for sending absolutely necessary e-mails)
  • Data portability according to Art. 20 DSGVO (e.g. you can contact us to receive your data stored by us in a compressed format, e.g. because you want to make the data available to another website)
  • Right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority pursuant to Art. 77 (1) f DSGVO (e.g. you can also contact the data protection supervisory authority directly in the event of complaints)
Deletion of data and storage period
Unless otherwise stated, we will delete your data as soon as it is no longer needed, e.g. your email address after you unsubscribe from our newsletter. Your data will also be blocked or deleted if a storage period prescribed by law expires, unless there is a need to continue storing the data for the conclusion or performance of a contract. Certain data may have to be stored longer for legal reasons. You can, of course, request information about the stored data at any time.

Visiting the website
When you visit our website, we use SSL or TLS encryption to protect the transmission of incoming and outgoing requests. You can recognize an encrypted connection by the fact that the address line of the browser begins with "https://" and by the lock symbol in your browser line. If you merely want to browse our website, we do not collect any personal data, with the exception of the data that your browser transmits to enable you to visit the website, first and foremost:

  • Name of the web page you accessed (e.g., the web page you just visited)
  • Date and time of the retrieval(e.g. 11:45 on 25.05.2018)
  • amount of data transferred (e.g. 2427 bytes)
  • Message about successful retrieval (e.g. the information whether there was an error when calling the page)
  • browser type and version (e.g. the browser used, Firefox 60.0.1)
  • the user's operating system (e.g. macOS 10.13.4)
  • Referrer URL (the previously visited page)
  • IP address and the requesting provider (e.g. 95.91.215.example or 2a02:8109:9440:1198:bdb1:551f:example)
The most interesting for you as a visitor to our website is the IP address, as this is data that can theoretically be traced back to you as a person. As a protective measure in favor of your privacy, we therefore delete all data 7 days after your visit to our website. The purpose of the temporary storage of the data at the beginning is to ensure the connection as well as accessibility and correct display of our website. The IP address and the technical data already mentioned are necessary to display the website, to prevent display problems for visitors and to correct error messages. The legal basis is the so-called legitimate interest, which has been examined in the context of the aforementioned protective measures and in accordance with the European data protection requirements from Art. 6 (1) lit. f DSGVO.

Contact form
You have the option of contacting us via our contact form. You can provide us with the following data:

  • Name
  • E-mail address
  • message
As a protective measure, the contact is made - just like the visit to the rest of the website - via an encrypted connection. In addition, we apply the principle of data minimization and collect only the data actually required in the contact form. After successfully contacting you and if the data is no longer needed for communication with you, your data will be deleted immediately. The sole purpose of the requested data is to contact you, which is why the data is only used for this purpose. The legal basis is the so-called legitimate interest, which has been examined in order to pursue the purpose and within the framework of the aforementioned protective measures and in accordance with the European data protection requirements from Art. 6 (1) lit. f DSGVO.

etracker
The provider of this website uses services of etracker GmbH from Hamburg, Germany to analyze usage data. We do not use cookies for web analysis by default.

The data generated with etracker is processed and stored by etracker on behalf of the provider of this website exclusively in Germany and is thus subject to the strict German and European data protection laws and standards. etracker has been independently audited, certified and awarded the ePrivacyseal data protection seal of approval in this regard.

Data processing is carried out on the basis of the legal provisions of Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. f (legitimate interest) of the German Data Protection Regulation (DSGVO). Our concern in terms of the DSGVO (legitimate interest) is the optimization of our online offer and our web presence. Since the privacy of our visitors is important to us, the data that may allow a reference to an individual person, such as the IP address, login or device identifiers, are anonymized or pseudonymized as soon as possible. No other use, combination with other data or transfer to third parties will take place.

You can object to the aforementioned data processing at any time. The objection has no adverse consequences.

You can find more information about data protection at etracker

Our social media appearances

Data processing through social networks
We maintain publicly available profiles in social networks. The individual social networks we use can be found below.

Social networks such as Facebook, Twitter etc. can generally analyze your user behavior comprehensively if you visit their website or a website with integrated social media content (e.g. like buttons or banner ads). When you visit our social media pages, numerous data protection-relevant processing operations are triggered. In detail:

If you are logged in to your social media account and visit our social media page, the operator of the social media portal can assign this visit to your user account. Under certain circumstances, your personal data may also be recorded if you are not logged in or do not have an account with the respective social media portal. In this case, this data is collected, for example, via cookies stored on your device or by recording your IP address.

Using the data collected in this way, the operators of the social media portals can create user profiles in which their preferences and interests are stored. This way you can see interest-based advertising inside and outside of your social media presence. If you have an account with the social network, interest-based advertising can be displayed on any device you are logged in to or have logged in to.

Please also note that we cannot retrace all processing operations on the social media portals. Depending on the provider, additional processing operations may therefore be carried out by the operators of the social media portals. Details can be found in the terms of use and privacy policy of the respective social media portals.

Legal basis
Our social media appearances should ensure the widest possible presence on the Internet. This is a legitimate interest within the meaning of Art. 6 (1) lit. f GDPR. The analysis processes initiated by the social networks may be based on divergent legal bases to be specified by the operators of the social networks (e.g. consent within the meaning of Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR).

Responsibility and assertion of rights
If you visit one of our social media sites (e.g., Facebook), we, together with the operator of the social media platform, are responsible for the data processing operations triggered during this visit. You can in principle protect your rights (information, correction, deletion, limitation of processing, data portability and complaint) vis-à-vis us as well as vis-à-vis the operator of the respective social media portal (e.g. Facebook).
Please note that despite the shared responsibility with the social media portal operators, we do not have full influence on the data processing operations of the social media portals. Our options are determined by the company policy of the respective provider.

Storage time
The data collected directly from us via the social media presence will be deleted from our systems as soon as you ask us to delete it, you revoke your consent to the storage or the purpose for the data storage lapses. Stored cookies remain on your device until you delete them. Mandatory statutory provisions - in particular, retention periods - remain unaffected.
We have no control over the storage duration of your data that are stored by the social network operators for their own purposes. For details, please contact the social network operators directly (e.g. in their privacy policy, see below).
